1 Timothy 2:1-4 KJV

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;  For kings, and for all that are in authority;  that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;  Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

You must always have scriptures to stand on to support your prayers.

Jesus gave us clear directions for the Church to pray after his death, burial and resurrection.  We are in what He said “that day”.

John 16:23

We are to pray first for our nations leaders and ALL that our in authority. For the purpose to have a quiet and peaceable life.  It is first to have freedom to travel and hear and preach the Gospel so that all men can choose to be saved.  People must hear the truth of God’s word to receive knowledge to hear the message of Jesus paying the redemptive price with His own blood to free them from bondage.

2 Corinthians  5:19

To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. KJV

The Amplified Bible says –

It was God [personally present] in Christ, reconciling and restoring the world to favor with Himself, not counting up and holding against [men] their trespasses [but cancelling them], and committing to us the message of reconciliation (of the restoration to favor).

This is the message the world is longing for, many people have been down trodden by religion and not the ministry of reconciliation.  The world has been, thats past tense, restored to favor with God.

Yes,  man must repent and receive the truth of his word and be born again.

John 3:3-17

That is why it is important for men to pray first for those in authority for the leaders  and presidents and even the ones we don’t agree with.  We must pray for them.

We ask for laborers be sent across their paths to hear this good news.

On one occasion I was speaking to this pastor and he seemed to hesitate when I read this verse below when I got to to part “giving of thanks”,….

1 Timothy 2:1-4

He did not want to do that part, if the first part of that verse is true, then the rest of that verse is true.  We cannot pick and choose what part we are to leave out.

You see the situation is not in the physical part we see.  There are unseen forces in the spirit realm influencing and directing  the behavior and decisions being made.

We can and should change these out comes with our prayers.  It is not a fleshly battle.

Ephesians 6:12

I remember having prayer meetings before an upcoming election,  most people did not like who was running for certain offices and we began to pray.  After the results of the election a woman came up to me and said “your prayers did not work”.

We never mentioned any candidates name or affiliation or even what each candidate believed.   Just because she did not see immediate results that she wanted, she came to the conclusion that this prayer groups prayers were not working.  This is sad to say but many others probably don’t really believe when they pray.  Look at James 5:16.

James 5:16 Amplified

16 Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].

Notice it says heartfelt continued prayer.  It is faith that prevails in prayer.

The prayer of faith is not used in supplication prayers, these requests are best prayed in our understanding and also in the Spirit or with the help of the Holy Spirit, or praying in an unknown tongue.

1 Cor 14:15

In fact the best way is by the unction of the Holy Ghost,  the Spirit of Prayer is a must.  You cannot make intercession for the lost without the Holy Spirits help, you will get into error, that’s a dangerous place to be, trying to manufacture a fleshy type of intercession and you open yourself up to deception.

He must lead us in all prayers. That is why the Lord Himself gave the greatest gift to the church, The Holy Ghost.  He is in us to help us. He is the greater one.

1 John 4:4, John 14:16-17,

When I attended Bible School years ago our teacher was teaching on the subject of prayer for our leaders and those in authority of our nation.  He emphasized the importance of putting this First before praying for anything else.

1 Timothy 2:1-4

This instructor gave two scriptures from the New Testament that covered anything and everything you needed to get your prayers answered.

John 15:7

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

And the second scripture was,…

Ephesians 6:18

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Another translation reads “with All kinds of prayer”  so you see there are more than one kind of prayer.  Actually all scripture can and should be used in certain kinds of prayers.

I had never heard any teaching ever along these lines.  Then he said something that astounded me.  He said if you have God’s word abiding in you,  you have a solid foundation for your prayers, put the word first.  You see we are in a covenant with God our father, when we have his word living and abiding in us we can put God in remembrance of His covenant and our covenant rights.

Then he showed us the scripture in

John 15:7

and pointed out that the word ye or today, we would say “you” appears five time’s.  Then we see it says the word “ask”.

So we know he is talking about prayer, asking God or request.  If you really look at it correctly it is absolutely true.

This teacher said “Your prayers being answered depend more on you, than they do on God”.   He said the word you is the main thought here.  If you really get this truth into your Spirit you will see it is why we are to read and study and meditate on the word.  For this reason it is what our Lord Jesus found Himself in the Word Himself.  The exact same way you and I must find ourself in the word.

The next scripture he gave us was

Ephesians 6:18

and he was again emphasizing the help of the Holy Spirit to help us pray. “In the spirit”  is to pray In the Holy Ghost or in an unknown tongue. This off course cannot happen until a born again believer is filled with the Holy Ghost and this is according to the pattern in the book of Acts beginning in

Acts 2:4, 10:44-46,  19:6 .

Praying in the Spirit or praying in other tongues is the best way to pray for what we don’t know with our natural understanding.

1 Corinthians 14:14-15

Romans 8:26

Knowing these truths compel us to search the scriptures for what we need and then get them firmly planted in our hearts before we ask.

When you study the Bible you will see most saints did not have rulers or kings that followed God and walked with him.  These saints even in the most grueling circumstances had trials and tests beyond what we experienced so far.   But they obeyed the word of God.  And we can follow the word and be victorious in our day.

Romans 8:37

37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
